Turnovers and missed free throws halted Charlotte’s second-half comeback in Boca Raton, Fla. falling to Florida Atlantic, 82-77. The loss snaps the 49ers three-game winning streak.

Charlotte and FAU traded leads in the first five minutes, ultimately leading to a tied game at 10. From there, FAU would score seven of the next nine points to bring the score to 19-12. Despite cutting the lead to five at one point, the 49ers were unable to contain FAU’s offense, which shot 50 percent from the floor in the half. By the time the final buzzer rang, Charlotte found themselves at an 11 point deficit, down 44-33.

The 49ers would open the second half by scoring the first four points to cut the FAU lead down to seven. But a Jon Davis turnover would spark a 13-3 run by Owls to extend their lead to 17.

Charlotte would chip away at the lead and, eventually, cut it down five points with 1:45 left. But FAU closed the game, converting on their final 11 free throw attempts.

Joseph Uchebo recorded his seventh straight double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Curran Scott added 16 points and seven rebounds. Lastly, Braxton Ogbueze scored all of his 15 points in the second half.

As a team, Charlotte was unable to generate any momentum. The 49ers finished with 17 turnovers and 10 missed free-throw attempts. However, they continued their hot shooting streak, finishing the game with a 50 percent mark from three.

Charlotte looks to rebound with a matchup against non-conference foe, North Carolina A&T. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3.
